Description

Maternal-newborn nurses are responsible for a complex, specialized body of knowledge related to the needs of the childbearing family, whether normal or at-risk. In recent years, that body of knowledge has expanded rapidly, as have the technologic and complex ethical issues surrounding pregnancy and birth. In addition, this knowledge base must be taught in a shorter period of time.

The Student Workbook and Resource Guide for Olds' Maternal-Newborn Nursing & Women's Health Across the Lifespan can assist in that effort by providing a concise, up-to-date review of maternal-newborn and women's health nursing care theoretical content, which emphasizes application of critical thinking in clinical and community-based maternity settings. Women's health issues are also explored.

All major maternity texts include content related to the human reproductive system and to the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal periods, although the sequences of content may vary. This workbook can be used with most of the major maternity nursing texts, no matter what the organization. It is specifically designed to be used with Olds' Maternal-Newborn Nursing & Women's Health Across the Lifespan, Ninth Edition, by Davidson, London, and Ladewig. The module subjects follow the same sequence as in the textbook, although a few textbook chapters are combined into one workbook module. To assist the student, we have identified the pertinent corresponding text chapters at the beginning of each workbook module and in the table of contents.
